Some people accused him of copying others’ moves and styles, while others questioned whether he was exploiting young dancers. “You ask yourself questions like, ‘Am I good enough?'”Īs he continued to grow his audience, he also faced criticism. “There are times where you’re up late at night working on a beat, and you think, ‘What am I doing?’ You start questioning yourself,” he says. By 2018, he had amassed almost 500,000 subscribers to his YouTube channel. In 2017, he won the award for best breakdancing act at the Urban Music Awards, beating artists such as Stormzy and Mr Eazi. “That’s when I knew I’d found my calling,” he says. A few months later, he posted another video, ‘Flexin’ With My Homies’. He uploaded his first video, ‘Freestyle Overlord’, and received about 200 views. “My friends told me I could make some money off YouTube.” “I wanted to do something different,” says Felix. He had already performed professionally since age 10, but felt like he needed to prove himself as a solo artist. In April 2016, FelixThe1st began uploading videos to YouTube.
